Part of the Classroom Experience

On December 8, 2004 Public Law 108-447 was signed by President George W. Bush. Sec. 111 (b) requires that all schools receiving “Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.”

Given the state of our public education costs relative to outcomes, as we discussed here, at least we can rest assured that students receive an education on the U.S. Constitution on one day of the school year. Right?

Is one day per school year enough to teach the supreme law of the land? Are students learning a biased or propagandized version of the Constitution depending upon their school system or teachers? How can we instruct the next generation about this great document so they cherish it and will not allow it to be degraded?

Constituting America

On Friday, February 6th’s edition of The Conservative Voice, Constitution Educator, Rochelle Porto, spoke about the mission of Constituting America, a 501(c)(3) organization founded by actress and director, Janine Turner. Constituting America engages with students from kindergarten through high school in a non-partisan manner about the history and the importance of the U.S. Constitution. Rochelle, a retired teacher, provides in-school or zoom programs, lessons and stories which engage students in a fun way through the use of quizzes and prizes about the country’s framework. Additionally, the organization provides pocket Constitutions to all class members.

The learning doesn’t stop with a speech. Constituting America provides live chats every Tuesday from 2:00-3:00PM on topics from the Amendments to the founding fathers. Additionally, they provide scholarship opportunities through contests geared at varying age levels.

Ms. Porto’s 2026 goal for Pennsylvania during this country’s 250th birthday year is to secure 15 schools, including public, private, parochial, or home-schooled groups, to participate in the Constituting America program. The organization’s resources are available for teachers and parents on their website.

Bottom line…

We encourage our supporters and friends to talk with the principals and teachers at your children and grandchildren’s schools. Ask them to take advantage of the absolutely free programs offered by Constituting America. Educators can book a free speech and get more information about the programs by clicking here.

We’ve witnessed the degradation of our education system over the decades with reading and math scores at record lows in Pennsylvania. We need to give our children a reason to want to learn… to thrive… to succeed. Even those Americans in dire circumstances are given the chance at prosperity because of our forefathers and founding documents. If our children don’t learn why we are a Republic rather than a Democracy, then they may never fully understand the greatness of this country!

As the Constitutional Convention ended in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked if the delegates produced a monarchy or a republic. Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

We are trying to keep this republic that we love and hold our representatives accountable to the people. Join us in that mission and share this Update with your contacts!
