It seems everyone is talking about D.O.G.E.

As members of D.O.G.E. review disbursements made by every department in the federal government, we are finally seeing how our tax dollars have been spent on international programs that do not benefit the American people.

Spending $47 million to “improve learning outcomes in Asia” seems crazy when five Asian countries top the list of best scores in math and science according to a report issued from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. That same report shows the U.S. ranking 34th in math out of 81 countries. Given these statistics, who is it that actually needs help improving learning outcomes?

Hopefully, D.O.G.E. will continue to find and put an end to absurd federal spending.

Sen. Doug Mastriano (R – Franklin/Adams Counties) recently introduced legislation to establish a PA D.O.G.E. While the federal D.O.G.E. is a part of the Executive Branch, the PA version would report to the legislature which controls the “purse strings” and budget appropriations for the commonwealth.

PA D.O.G.E. would report findings to a newly created Bi-Partisan Oversight Committee, which would review recommendations and vote upon suspending or continuing funding.

Sen. Mastriano is currently seeking co-sponsors of this bill. Let’s see if he can get bi-partisan buy-in to bring fiscal responsibility back to Pennsylvania.

Bottom line…

With each revelation of how our federal tax dollars are being misspent, we become keenly aware that we have no idea how our local and state governments are allocating resources. Tax payers deserve transparency and fiscal responsibility from our elected officials. Together we can hold them accountable.

As the Constitutional Convention ended in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked if the delegates produced a monarchy or a republic. Franklin replied, “a republic, if you can keep it.”

We are trying to keep this republic that we love and hold our representatives accountable to the people. Join us in that mission and share this Update with your contacts!
